Kickball Skills Assessment
Students will be assessed on specific skills for the game of kickball for both their application of skills and amount of effort given.

Skill 1- Throwing
1
Attempts to place the throwing-arm side of body away from the target, attempts to step toward the target, attempts to raise the arm at elbow and throws accurately to target less than 40% the time.

Demonstrates proper body stance, raises arm at elbow, steps toward the target with the opposite foot, and sometimes throws accurately.

Demonstrates and applies proper body stance, bends and raises the arm at the elbow, steps toward the target with the opposite foot, rotates hips while throwing arm moves forward, and usually throws accurately.

Consistently demonstrates placing the throwing-arm side of the body away from the target, steps toward target w/the foot opposite the throwing hand, raises the arm at the elbow, rotates hips as the throwing arms moves forward, and always throws accurately.
Skill 2-Kicking

Skills are weak and need improvement. The student rarely kicks the ball and is unsure of proper techniques.

Skill 3- Fielding grounders

Skills are weak and need improvement. The ball usually gets past the student because the student struggles with proper technique.

Sometimes demonstrates ready position behind the ball,watches the ball into the hands, knees are bent to lower the body, catches, straightens up, takes step in direction of the throw and sometimes throws to intended target.

Mostly demonstrates ready position behind the ball,watches the ball into the hands, knees are bent to lower the body, catches, straightens up, takes step in direction of the throw and throws to intended target most of the time.

Skill 4- Base Running

Does not give best at running bases. Shows little to no effort to make it to base. Does not understand base running techniques and rules.

Skill 5-Catching

Skills are weak and need improvement. The student drops the ball nearly every time and is unsure of proper techniques.

Skills are developing. The student is sometimes successful in catching the ball and is still developing proper techniques. However the student sometimes uses the body to trap the ball.

Skills are adequate. The student is successful nearly every time in catching the ball and tries to use proper techniques, including extending the arms and then pulling ball to chest.
4
Skills are superior. The student is successful catching the ball 100% of the time and uses proper techniques, including extending the arms and then pulling ball to chest.
