The writing demonstrates that the writer was not able to decide what infomration related to his/her topic.

Exeeds Standard
The writer develops his/her topic with excellent examples, facts, definitions, and quotations.
The writer has given much thought to the structure of the support. He/she has organized his/her information with deliberate intention.
Meets Standard
The writer provides some examples, facts, definitions, and quotations that support his/her topic.
The structure of the support makes sense.
Below Standard
The writer provides very few or no examples of evidence that supports his/her topic.
Concluding Statement
Exeeds Standard
The writer has included a conclusion paragraph that restates the topic and summarizes the most important evidence.
The writer has resloved his/her piece using a specific type of ending (summary, quotation, call-back, etc.)
Meets Standard
The writer ends his/her piece with a sense of resolution by providing a concluding statment. It effectively wraps up his/her topic.
Below Standard
The writer does not end his/her piece in a way that leaves the reader satisfied with a sense of resolution.

Exeeds Standard
The writer chooses excellent precise, domain-specific words.
The writer links his/her
ideas with transition words that add to the meaning of the text.
He/she follows grade-appropriate conventions. There are very few mistakes and those that are present do not detract from the reader's ability to understand the text.
Meets Standard
The writer chooses words that demonstrate an understanding of his/her chosen topic.
He/she uses some transition words in an effort to link ideas.
The writer makes some convention mistakes that may affect the reader's understanding.
Below Standard
The writer makes little attempt to use precise vocabulary.
He/she makes many convention errors that make reading the piece difficult.
Presentation

The final draft is neatly written with an appropriate, creative title.
The writer always begins a new paragraph by indenting, and his/her writing stays inside the margins of the paper.
Meets Standard
The final draft is mostly neat and has a title.
The piece may have some words that are difficult to read and/or the writer has written into the margins.

The final draft is difficult to read because the writer has made little effort to write neatly.
