Introduction/Thesis Statement	Excellent Thesis and Introduction are well developed. Covers both subjects in an engaging way	Good Introduction and thesis statement are fairly well developed. Covers both subjects but does not engage the reader	Fair either does not give accurate and complete information, does not emphasize the author's point for the comparison or contrast.	Poor Introduction and thesis statement do not introduce both subjects for comparison or contrast,
Organization & Analysis Organization and analysis	Excellent Transitional topic sentences relate to thesis. Details support the point for the comparison/contrast.	Good Transitional topic sentence relates to thesis Details do not vividly support the author's point for the comparison/contrast.	Fair There are details, but they are not clear, specific, and vivid, or both subjects are not given roughly the same amount of space.	Poor There are no apparent topic sentences for each paragraph. No supporting details.
Mechanics	Excellent No errors in punctuation, spelling, grammar, or capitalization.	Good A few minor errors in punctuation, spelling, grammar, or capitalization.	Fair A few errors in punctuation, grammar, spelling, and capitalization that are while distracting.	Poor Distracting and major errors in grammar, punctuation, spelling, and capitalization.
