Impressionist Painting Impressionist Painting Have students paint a copy of an impressionist painting. Have each student create a label (one page max.) for a selected work, including the artist name, title, date, and a description, which should address the following: Describe the subject: What does the artist show in this picture? What details or symbols give clues to its meaning? Where is the scene supposed to take place? Describe the technique: How would you describe the artist's use of color and light? How would you describe the brushstroke? Why would this be considered an Impressionist work? How is it different from the work of other Impressionists? 	Poor 0 pts	Fair 5 pts	Good 10 pts
Colors	Poor The student does not use the correct colors for the impressionist style painting.	Fair The student uses some of the primary colors for impressionist painting but uses other colors as well.	Good The student uses just the primary colors that were used in an impressionist style of painting.
Brushstorkes	Poor The student does not represent small brushstrokes throughout the entire painting.	Fair The student uses some small brushstrokes in their painting.	Good The student uses small brushstrokes throughout their entire painting.
Participation	Poor The student does not stay on task and participate in the project.	Fair The student has a hard time staying on task but does participate in the project.	Good The student fully participates in the project.
Style of Painting	Poor The student does not try to paint an impressionist style of painting.	Fair The student attempts to stay with the impressionist style of painting but has some flaws.	Good The students painting is exactly what an impressionist style of painting should look like.
Page Description	Poor The student does not do the one page assignment	Fair The student attempts to do the one page assignment but it is incomplete.	Good The student completes the one page assignment and it is turned in neatly. Proper spelling and punctuation are used. The paper answers the questions given in the description.
