Oral Reading Fluency
	5 pts	4 pts	3 pts
Expression and Volume	5 Sounds like natural language. Reading has excellent expression. The reader is able to vary expression and volume depending on the poem.	4 Some expression, but not consistent. Attempts to use voice to make text sound like natural language, but not all the time. Volume is generally soft.	3 Reads mostly word by word. Very little expression or enthusiasm in voice. Little sense of trying to make text sound like natural language. Volume is generally very soft.
Smoothness/Accuracy/Automaticity	5 Reading is very smooth and well rehearsed. Paid attention to punctuation and knew all of the words in the poem.	4 A few "jerks" in the reading where the student stops to problem solve. Flow becomes disruptive. Pauses may be due to lack of preparation or failure to observe punctuation.	3 Long pauses between words or phrases. Very choppy. Little, if any, attention to punctuation.
Pacing	5 The reading of the poem was at a perfect pace. (not too fast or too slow) It allowed audience enough time to think about the meaning of the poem.	4 At times, the poem was read too fast/slow, but for the most part, it was read at an appropriate pace.	3 Poem was read way too fast, or way too slow and it took away from the meaning of the poem.
Poise	5 Stands upright and shows confidence. No nervous gestures. Appears well-rehearsed.	4 Stands upright but seems to lack some confidence. Some nervous gestures may be evident. Appears rehearsed.	3 Slouches and shows a lack of confidence. Does not appear rehearsed.
