The brief is organized in a meaningful way that demonstrated pre-planning and aforethought. Brief has an opening, body and conclusion. Student demonstrates strong effort in organizing the information into a clear and coherent brief.
Strength of Argument

Makes at least 2-3 main arguments. Arguments are persuasive and demonstrate understanding of the case.

Poor

Student does not demonstrate understanding of the issue.
Struggling

Student does not completely grasp the issue and struggles to give a persuasive argument.
Sufficient/Good

Student is somewhat persuasive and demonstrates understanding of the issue. Student may at times be inconsistent with their argument.
Above Average

Student is persuasive and demonstrates understanding of the issue. Student gives correct analysis of the issue--but may briefly stray from the topic.
Outstanding

Student is very persuasive and demonstrates deep understanding of the issue. Student gives correct analysis of the issue and is able to pick out the important information from the case.
Mechanics

Poor

Brief is written with no regard to grammar and proper essay mechanics.
Struggling

Brief is not written in essay form with complete sentences. Student does not demonstrate sufficient effort in putting brief into proper essay form.
Sufficient/Good

Brief has several grammatical errors. At times, is not in essay form.
Above Average

Brief is free of grammatical errors except for one or two minor instances and is written in proper essay form.
Outstanding

Brief is free of grammatical errors and is written in proper essay form.
