Topic Sentence 10 %	Excellent Strong topic sentence that clearly addresses the prompt.	Good Clear topic sentence that relates to the prompt.	Fair Topic sentence is weak.	Poor Missing topic sentence.
Support & Details 40 %	Excellent Student included clear supporting sentences followed by specific, detailed examples that thoroughly support the main idea.	Good Student included supporting sentences followed by examples that support the main idea. Supporting sentences and or examples could be stronger and/or more specific.	Fair Student included basic support and examples, but examples are weak and or too vague or general.	Poor Paragraph is missing main supporting ideas and/or enough examples.
Transitions 15 %	Excellent Student successfully used transitions to move the reader clearly from point to point without overusing them.	Good Student used some transitions, but more or better chosen ones would be helpful.	Fair Very few transitions used or the transitions chosen are not effective.	Poor No transitions used.
Sentence Variety 15 %	Excellent Student used a sophisticated variety of sentences including compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences.
