Energy Transformation Project
Construct an energy transformation diagram illustrating a minimum of five different energy transformations. This diagram must show your understanding of multiple FORMS of energy and be an accurate representation of how energy changes forms. Along with your transformation diagram, you must create a summary explanation of what is happening to the energy in your diagram. You must also explain how your energy transformations relate to the Law of Conservation of Energy.

Understanding

Minimal

Shows limited or no understanding of different forms of energy, perhaps only recopying the provided information.

Unable to identify or classify energies involved in project and does not address energy transformation.
Developing

Shows some understanding of the required scientific knowledge through identification of at least two forms of energy and one transformation.

The diagram and explanation addresses some but not all components presented in task.
Proficient

Identifies and classifies at least five different energies involved in project and correctly identifies how energy is transformed from one state to others.

There may be minor errors.
Advanced

Shows complete understanding of the required scientific knowledge of energy.

Identifies and classifies all energies involved in project and correctly identifies how energy is transformed from one state to others.

The presentation completely addresses ALL components presented in the task.
Planning and Execution

Minimal

Uses none of the important elements of the task.

Works haphazardly with no particular strategy for presenting energy transformation.

Uses irrelevant data.

Does not include diagram of processes.
Developing

Uses some important elements of the task.

Uses an inappropriate strategy or application of strategy is unclear.

Uses some relevant data.

Diagram unclear or incomplete.
Proficient

Uses most of the important elements of the task.

Uses an appropriate but incomplete strategy for explanation.

Uses most relevant data.

Appropriate, complete diagram.
Advanced

Uses only the important elements of task.

Uses an appropriate and complete strategy for solving the problem.

Uses only relevant information.

Uses clear and effective diagram examples.
Communication

Minimal

There is no explanation of the transformations, the explanation cannot be understood or is unrelated to task.

There is no use or inappropriate use of scientific terminology and notation
Developing

There is an incomplete explanation: it may not be clearly presented.

There is some use of appropriate scientific representation<BR>
Relatively unclear presentation
Proficient

There is a clear explanation.

there is appropriate use of accurate scientific representation.

There is efffective use of model to explain energy transformation.
Advanced

There is a clear, effective explanation, supported by diagram.

Scientific representation/vocabulay is actively used as means of communicating ideas
Drawings- General

Minimal

There are several erasures, smudged lines or stray marks on the paper, which detract from the drawing. Overall, the quality of the drawing is poor.
Developing

There are a few erasures, smudged lines or stray marks on the paper, which detract from the drawing OR color is not used carefully. Overall, the quality of the drawing is fair.
Proficient

There are a few erasures, smudged lines or stray marks on the paper, but they do not greatly detract from the drawing. Color is used carefully to enhance the drawing. Overall, the drawing is good.
Advanced

Lines are clear and not smudged. There are almost no erasures or stray marks on the paper. Color is used carefully to enhance the drawing. Overall, the quality of the drawing is excellent.
Errors

Minimal

Scientific, grammatical and/or spelling errors profuse.

Sloppy or incomplete work
Developing

Minimal errors.

Complete but late work
Proficient

Almost no errors or omissions.

Work is complete, neat and on-time
Advanced

No errors.

Work is complete and on-time.

Good creativity in addition to neat and careful work.
