Retell Folktale
Students choose a folktale and write it using a different setting and characters. They must keep the same plot, message, and basic character traits of the main characters in the original folktale. Or students may create their own folktale keeping to the guidelines of the rubric.

Clear sequence of paragraphs

Excellent

The story is organized so that it highlights the ideas and subjects in an interesting way, and the paragraphs provide a clear order to the story.
Good

The story is somewhat organized in the paragraph structure, but is not completely clear.
Poor

The story lacks a clear sense of direction. The ideas, details, or events are strung together in a loose or random fashion, and the paragraphs seem to follow no sequence.

The story begins with a description of the setting and words such as "Once upon a time," as is standard for a folktale.
