Haiku Poem Haiku Poem Students will provide a handwritten Haiku poem along with an illustration. Haiku poem will have three lines. The first line has five syllables, second line has seven syllables and last line has five syllables. Format	Excellent Writing is neat, title is presnt. Poem follows directions of 5,7, 5 syllables in three lines.	Good Writing is somewhat neat. Poem follows most of the directions and is in three lines.	Fair Writing is not neat. Poem does not follow the directions and is not in three lines.	Incomplete Writing is not neat. Poem does not follow Haiku format.
Illustration	Excellent Illustration gives a great idea of what the poem is about.	Good Illustration gives somewhat of an idea of what the poem is about.	Fair Illustration is not present or does not have anything to do with the assignment.	Incomplete Illustration is missing.
Spelling	Excellent There are no spelling mistakes. Student uses a variety of resources to assist in spelling.	Good There are 1-2 spelling errors. Student attempts to use resources to help spell.	Fair There are 3 or more spelling errors but poem is still readable.	Incomplete There are more than 3 errors in spelling, which make the poem unreadable.
Sparkle Words	Excellent Student used more than 3 sparkle words to make the poem sound interesting.	Good Student used 3 sparkle words to make the poem sound interesting.	Fair Student used two sparkle words to make the poem sound interesting.	Incomplete Student used 1 or less sparkle words, the language was very basic.
Technique/Strategy	Excellent Student used more than one technique or strategy to help make the subject come to life.	Good Student used one strategy/technique to make the subject come to life.	Fair The student attempted to use one strategy/technique to make the subject come to life, but parts of it may be unclear or incorrectly used.	Incomplete The student did not use any strategies or techniques to make the subject come to life.
