Sight Word Discussion Participation & Understanding	Poor Student gives teacher little to no attention and distracts the rest of the class.	Fair Student gives teacher fair attention with only one or two interruptions.	Excellent Student gives teacher full attention during the sight word discussion for Owl Moon. And has full understanding of sight words.
Split Images Participation & Understanding	Poor Student is not aware of which partner they are (A or B) and yells out their prediction during every slide. Causes distractions for the rest of the class.	Fair Student is aware of which partner they are (A or B) and participates but does not always whisper. At times the student yells their prediction out loud.	Excellent Student is aware of which partner they are (A or B) and participates when it is their turn by whispering their prediction in partner's ear.
Five Important Words Completion	Poor Student chooses no words or chooses words that do not pertain to the setting (Such as articles). If wrong words are chosen, teacher will assess what the problem of understanding was and the student will be allowed another attempt.	Fair Student correctly chooses 4 or 3 important words that describe the setting of the story.	Excellent Student correctly chooses five important words that describe the setting of the story.
Quick Draw Completion	Poor Student does not make a quick draw at all.	Fair Student creates quick draw that does not pertain to the sight wall words for Owl Moon, the theme of the story, or the characters or the setting. The drawing still pertains to Owl Moon.	Excellent Student creates a quick draw that defines or explains a word from the sight wall words for Owl Moon, analyzes the theme of the story, or describes a character or the setting.
Talking Stick Discussion Participation	Poor Student does not participate.	Fair Student participates but does not talk about a time they had to be quiet.	Excellent Student participates during the 'talking stick' discussion and describes a time they had to be quiet.
Class Haiku Participation & Understanding	Poor Student does not participate.	Fair	Excellent Student participates by volunteering or suggesting words for each Haiku line.
