Sequence clue words Uses words such as first, next, then, after that, and in the end.	Advanced All 5 sequencing words were used.	Proficient The student used 3 or more of the sequencing clue words.	Basic Student used less than 3 sequencing clue words.
Conventions The student will use correct punctuation for effective sentences.	Advanced The student used accurate punctuation consistently resulting in good sentence construction.	Proficient The student used accurate punctuation most of the time when constructing sentences.	Basic The student did not effectively use punctuation resulting in poor sentence construction.
Order of Events The students will show an understanding of the story by placing the events in a logical order.	Advanced All events were in a correct logical sequence.	Proficient Some of the events of the story are in the correct logical sequence.	Basic Events are confused and out of sequential order.
