MGT 316: Sports Management Course Participation Rubric 
This rubric will be used to validate your participation points throughout the semester. This rubric will be used 5 times (40 points each) and is provided to help you improve your level of participation. My goal is to have high level participation among all coaching students - not to penalize you for low participation.

Poor

Student is never prepared and does not demonstrate an understanding of the material. Student never participates in class, does not participate in group activities, dialog preparation or engage in conversation .
Fair

Student is rarely prepared and does not demonstrate an understanding of the material. Student rarely participates in class, struggles with group activities and conversation.
Good

Student is sometimes prepared by demonstrating an understanding of the material. Student sometimes asks questions, participates in drills, discussions, dialog preparation and engages in conversation.
Excellent

Student is clearly prepared by demonstrating an understanding of the material. Student often asks questions, actively participates in small group activities, discussions, dialog preparation and engages in course conversation.
CONDUCT

Conducts self appropriately and is respectful of the learning environment and other students.

Poor

Student usually is disruptive in class. Cellphone or another electronic devise is used regularly, or student often converses with others during class. Reads non-course related material or prepares for other classes. Regularly leaves class early.
Fair

Student is frequently disruptive of class time. May not be respectful toward others and may have used cellphone or another electronic device more than once during class. Reads non-course related material or prepares for other classes. Has left class early more than once.
Good

Student is usually respectful of others, but may have used their cellphone or another electronic device once. Student may have left class early once w/out excuse.
Excellent

Student is always respectful of others, does not use cellphone (or other electronic devices) or talk to others during class. Student does not leave class early (or has left w/ excuse) or provide other disruption.
VOLUNTEER PARTICIPATION
10 pts

Participates in the course's volunteer activities or arranges another similar activity.

Poor

Student never attends volunteer activity.
Fair

Student rarely attends volunteer activity and needs to contribute at a higher level.
Good

Student attends volunteer activity but needs to contribute at a higher level.
Excellent

Student always attends volunteer activity and actively demonstrates coaching principles.
PUNCTUALITY
10 pts

Arrives on time to class. Submission of assignments.

Poor

Student is often late to class. (Tardy 4 or more times)
Fair

Student sometimes arrives on time. (Tardy 2-3 times)
Good

Student usually arrives on time or early. (Tardy once)
Excellent

Student is always on time or early for class. (Never tardy)
