Spelling is correct on word wall words and previous Spelling words and close on high-frequency words.

Capital Letters

Poor

Use of upper and lower case letters appears to be random.
(Example: wnT, HeR, fT, MY)
Fair

Use of upper and lower case is mostly correct. Some sentences may begin with capital letters. "I" is inconsistently capitalized.
Good

Upper and lower case letters are used correctly. Capital letters almost always mark the beginning of a sentence. "I" is always capitalized. Proper nouns are inconsistent.
Exemplary

Sentence beginnings and proper nouns are usually correctly capitalized. All upper and lower case letters are correctly used.
Ending Punctuation

Poor

The writing has no ending punctuation at all or is completely incorrect.
Fair

The writing has inconsistent or sometimes incorrect ending punctuation.
Good

Ending punctuation is mostly, but not completely correct.
Exemplary

The writer correctly uses more than one type of ending punctuation and punctuation is always correct.
Presentation/Handwriting

Poor

Formation of letters is irregular. Writing may be in scribbles or unreadable.
Fair

There is little or no spacing between words but letters are clearly formed. Improper use of lines (example: using only the middle of the lines, stopping short on a line).
Good

Spacing between words is present, student uses the proper length of the line when writing.
Exemplary

Spacing between words is displayed. Spacing after a period is consistently correct. Letters are correctly formed and written work is neat.
Grammar

Poor

Words as a whole do not make sense or complete a thought.
Fair

Attempted sentence use. Use of singular/plural nouns (dog/dogs) is sometimes correct.
Inconsistent use of contractions.
Good

Use of contractions and singular/plural nouns is mostly correct. Proper sentence use.
Exemplary

Correct use of sentences, contractions, singular/plural nouns, and possesive pronouns (girls' hats).
