Writes no questions for the group to discuss or asks trivial or obvious questions which do not require any thinking and little or no understanding of the text.

Writes 1 question which may or may not provoke discussion among the group members. Question may help bring understanding of the main theme(s) of the assigned reading or help clarify confusing parts and barely elicit answers beyond "yes" or "no."

Writes at least 2 questions which provoke discussion among the group members. Some questions may help bring understanding of the main theme(s) of the assigned reading or help clarify confusing parts and elicit answers beyond "yes" or "no," and others may not.
Great

Shares at least 3 connections between the text and him/herself, another book, story, movie, etc. Asks all other group members to share their connections as well. Listens and adds on to the sharing of other group members to extend the discussion.
Illustrator
Poor
Illustration is sketchy, incomplete, or not done.
Fair
Illustration is vague or facial features, etc. do not show the emotion conveyed in the scene in the reading. Shows little or no detail, and doesn't label picture. Shows picture with little or no discussion.
Good
Illustration is vague or facial features, etc. do not show the emotion conveyed in the scene in the reading. Shows some detail, or when that is not possible, labels illustration to show what he/she has drawn. Orally describes why the illustration was done in this manner.
Great
Is creative in the illustration shown; facial features show emotion conveyed in the scene in the reading, etc. Shows some detail or labels it to show what he/she has drawn. Orally describes why the illustration was done in this manner.
Outstanding

Chooses at least 2 words from the reading that are not only unfamiliar but also may be unusual or unique. Accurately defines both words and cites them from the reading.

Chooses at least 3 words from the reading that are not only unfamiliar but also may be unusual or unique. Accurately defines all 3 words and cites them from the reading.
Summarizer
Poor
Does not write a summary, or writes about something other than the book or chapter that is being read.
Fair
Writes 2-3 sentences, or does not write about main parts of the story or chapter.
Good
Writes a short summary that includes lots of non important details. Does not include or only includes some of the story elements.
Great
Writes at least one paragraph that includes most of the important details and most of the story elements.
Outstanding
Writes at least 1-2 paragraphs that includes all of the important details and all of the story elements.
