3D Model of a Cell
Purpose: Produce a 3D model of a plant cell and an animal cell, to better understand the structure and the workings of these types of cells. You will work with a partner to construct a model made of edible materials that meets the criteria listed below. You are responsible for creating a key with a list of all the organelles in each model. Although you are splitting up the work with a partner both of you are responsible for knowing the different structures of each model and the functions of the organelles. Once the models have been completed you and your partner will be assessed with an identification quiz using your models. REMEMBER: Science is not edible but anything that you do not use to construct the model maybe ingested.

Crafmanship

The model is creative and neat. The model is 3D and stays together nicely.

1

Structure is falling apart. Many organelles are missing.
2

Some organelle are missing. The relative sizes of structures is inaccurate. Nucleus is not prominent. Some instability in structure
3

Very good cell replica. Most organelles are present. Sizes are not necessarily comparatively accurate. Nucleus is prominent.
4

Outstanding replication. All organelles are present and structurally correct. Comparatively the sizes are accurate. Nucleus is most prominent feature. Model is stable.
Cell Parts

Type of cell is indicated on the key.
Key is easy to use for identification.
All organelles are present on both models and the key.
Items and shapes of organelles are accurate depictions of cell.
Shape of cells are accurate.

1

Key is not accurate or key is missing
2

Key has several inaccuracies. Some structures omitted or added in error
3

Key is mostly accurate. Key designates type of cell
4

Key is completely accurate. Key designate the type of cell. Color coded with cell structures accurately
Writing

Spelling is correct on key.

1

Many miss spelled words. Key is missing. Wrong type of cell is identified. Student does not demonstrate an understanding of project.
2

Student has great difficulty correctly explaining his/her model. There are several spelling errors and written mistakes.
3

Only a few spelling errors. Student can explain most structures accurately.
4

Spelling is correct. Student can identify and explain cell structures.
