First Grade Handwriting This rubric can be used to assess student handwriting in many different assignments.
	Needs Improvement 1 pts	Satifactory 2 pts	Good 3 pts	Excellent 4 pts
Line Usage How well are the students using their writing lines?	Needs Improvement Many errors in line usage.	Satifactory Few errors using lines correctly.	Good Uses lines correctly most of the time.	Excellent Always uses lines correctly.
Spacing How well are students spacing their letters and/or words?	Needs Improvement Many errors in spacing.	Satifactory Few errors using spacing correctly.	Good Uses proper spacing most of the time.	Excellent Always uses proper spacing.
Letter Formation How well are students forming their letters correctly?	Needs Improvement Many errors in letter formation. Incorrect letter formations.	Satifactory Few errors in letter formation. Few letters are formed incorrectly.	Good Most letters are formed correctly.	Excellent Consistently forms all letters correctly.
Readability How easy is it to read the students' writing?	Needs Improvement Many errors in readability.	Satifactory Few errors in readability.	Good Very easy to read.	Excellent Always easy to read.
Neatness How neat is the students' handwriting?	Needs Improvement Difficult to read.	Satifactory Not as neatly done.	Good Writes neatly.	Excellent Always writes neatly.
