Tone Quality

A

Tone is full and supported with excellent air support. The performance demonstrates mature concepts of tone production.
B

Tone is full most of the time and supported with good air. The performance demonstrates an at-level concept of tone production, and an effort is being made to improve.
C

Tone is full sometimes, the performance occasionally lacks the appropriate air support to create a good sound.
D

Tone is rarely full, the performance lacks the appropriate air support used in making a good sound.
Note Accuracy and Intonation

A

All pitches are performed accurately.
Student understands the concept of intonation, and can correct problems immediately if they occur.
B

80% to 90% of the pitches are performed accurately. Student generally understands intonation and makes an adequate effort to correct problems.
C

70% to 80% of the pitches are performed accurately. Student understands intonation, but is not yet secure in the methods to correct problems.
D

less then 70% of the pitches are performed accurately. Intonation problems are rarely corrected by student.
Rhythm and Pulse

A

Music is performed with a consistent pulse and correct rhythms.
B

The excercise is performed with a mostly consistent pulse and 80% to 90% of the rhythms are correct.
C

The excercise is performed with a somewhat consistent pulse and 70% to 80% of the rhythms are correct.
D

Exercise is performed with an inconsistent pulse and rhythms are less then 70% correct and/or unidentifiable.
Articulation, accents, and style

A

Correct articulations, accents, and style is used throughout.
B

Articulations, accents, and style are correct for 80% to 90% of performance, student demonstrates an understanding of these concepts.
C

Articulations, accents, and style are correct for 70% to 80% of the performance.
D

Articulations, accents, and style are correct less than 70% of the performance, and/or no indication of intonation is present in student's performance
