Stance, Nock, Set Draw Hand/Bow Han

-Feet shoulder width apart, straddle shooting line, bow shoulder facing target.<BR>
--Hook middle three fingers onto string at first knuckle, back of hand and wrist flat, elbow level with forearm<BR>
-3 fingers set below arrow
-Bow pulled back against bow hand with fingers draped lightly around grip
-Bow parallel to ground, nock below the nock locator, nock arrow at 90 degree angle, index fletch facing away from the bow

Beginner

Student frequently does not demonstrate the correct stance, table top position and the arrow nock and needs to be reminded of all the skill cues.
Developing

Student demonstrates the stance, table top position and nocks the arrow correctly most of the time but needs some verbal reminders and skill cues to perform the steps correctly.
Proficient

Student consistently demonstrates the proper feet stance, puts bow in table top position and nocks the arrow safely and correctly with the index vane facing up.
Predraw, Draw, Anchor

-Raise Bow arm straight up
-pull or draw your bow string back <BR>
-anchor finger at the corner of mouth

Beginner

Student frequently does not perform the three finger grip correctly, bow arm is usually bent, and anchors too short or too long for the shooters draw length. Student needs to be reminded of all skill cues.
Developing

Student demonstrates understanding of the three finger grip, the bow arm being straight out and how to anchor but needs some verbal reminder of the skill cues to perform the steps correctly.
Proficient

Student consistently demonstrates proper three fingers, how to draw the bowstring back with bow arm straight out and how to anchor at the corner of the mouth while shooting.
Aim, Release, Follow through

-Set nose against bow string
-Look down the arrow to target, aim at spot with point of arrow <BR>
string, hand stays at anchor position<BR>
-Release string
-bring the shooting hand straight back to shoulder

Beginner

Student frequently does not aim and misses the target. Student does not bring shooting arm back from anchor position to follow through position.
Developing

Student demonstrates some understanding of aiming and hits the target most of the time. Student follows through after their release most of the time.<BR>
Students arrow hits the target but bounces off because they did not follow through fast enough to give their shot power.
Proficient

Student consistently aims and can cluster their arrows in one spot on the target and follows through by bringing their hand to their ear or past it each time they shoot.
Arrow Retrieval Safety

-one arrow at a time is removed<BR>

-"L" shaped hand lays flat against the target with the arrow in the corner of the "L"<BR>
-other hand grips arrow and pulls out<BR>
-once all arrows are removed they are stacked together and are walked to the quivers with one hand over the points and the other holding the middle of the arrow shafts

Beginner

Student frequently removes more than one arrow at a time, does not use leg to support target, pulls from the fletching end of the arrow, and does not carry the arrows proper to quivers.
Developing

Student demonstrates some understanding of how to remove the arrows one at a time, supports the target, grabs the arrow close to target entry point and carries the arrows back to the quiver but needs some verbal reminders.
Proficient

Student consistently removes the arrows properly with proper hand and leg support and carries the arrows to the quiver with the points covered and the other hand gripping the arrow shaft.
Rules and Safety

-always follow the whistle commands<BR>
-keep all feet behind the green lines<BR>
-always point your bow and arrow towards the targets<BR>
-no dry firing <BR>
-all doors are locked and their is a sign saying that archery is in session<BR>
-close toed shoes only<BR>
-handle the bows and arrows with care

Beginner

Student consistantly does not follow the whistle commands, has their feet on the green line, points the bow or arrow in directions other than at the target, dry fires, and does not handle the bow with care. <BR>
(If a student can not follow these rules, it puts others in danger and that student will be removed from the class)
Developing

Student demonstrates the whistle commands, feet behind the green lines, points their bow and arrow in the right direction towards the target and handles the bow with care most of the time during archery. Student needs some verbal reminders.
Proficient

Student consistently demonstrates an understanding of all the whistle commands and follows the safety rules. Student handles the bow and arrows with care at all times.

Student consistently demonstrates an understanding of the terminology and how to use it on the bow and arrow and the nine steps for shooting at all times during archery.
Identify correct form of peers

Beginner

Student can not identify the nine steps for shooting while critiquing a peer on their shooting form using a rubric.
Developing

Student can identify and give a peer a critique on their shooting form if they have some assistance from a teacher while using a rubric.
Proficient

Student can identify and give a peer a critique on their shooting form using a rubric.
