Book Summary and Personal Response Rubric 
The student will type a summary and personal response of their independent reading book of at least one page from the provided book list. Student will include the title, author, and number of pages. With in the summary students will use a topic sentence that cites their book and author using the IVF topic sentence structure. The summary should include the main characters, the conflict and resolution, a summary of the plot, and a personal connection to the book. Students will also complete the notes for their book and turn in those notes with the typed summary/personal response.

The report jumps around a lot and is hard to follow. The summary is hard to understand and doesn't clearly explain the plot or main events of the book.

Personal Response

Your personal opinion of the book or a connection that you felt toward the book should be included in your report. Reasons for your opinion or connection should also be included.

Meeting Standard

The response demonstrates your personal connection to the book, and reasons for recommendation to readers.
Approaching Standard

The response demonstrates your personal connection to the book, answered personal connection or reason for recommendation.
Below standard

The response weakly demonstrates your personal connection to the book, or recommendation.
