Fair Grammar and structure errors do not interfere with the communication of the out line. There are a few mistakes regarding mechanics.	Good The outline adheres to all rules of grammar and writing mechanics. Any mistakes consist only of typos.
Format	Poor The student has not followed the outline format referred to on the handouts or there are too few body paragraphs represented by the outline.	Fair The outline strays from the format in places but does not affect the communication of main points and their respective research.	Good The student has accurately followed the outline structure suggested in the handouts.
Thesis	Poor There is no thesis or it is lacking specificity and direction. The thesis is stated as a question.	Fair The thesis needs to be clarified and more specific. The thesis will work with some editing or modification.	Good The thesis is clearly stated and specific. There is no change required between the outline and the rough draft in the thesis statement.
Research	Poor There is no research mentioned in the outline or it is not explained how the main points of the outline will be supported by examples, citations, quotes, etc..	Fair The outline contains some mention of research but the explanation of how it will support paragraph topics lacks clarification.	Good The outline contains well thought out research and clearly explains how it will support each paragraph topic.
