This criterion includes how many things a student states he or she learned and how thoroughly each thing is discussed.

Poor

Any stated things are not discussed sufficiently, and it is difficult to comprehend what the student learned.
Fair

1-2 things are stated and discussed to some degree.
Good

2 things are stated and discussed sufficiently and appropriately.
Excellent

At least 3 or more things are stated and discussed at length with appropriate examples and details.
Intended Use of Knowledge/Skills

This criterion includes how thoroughly a student relates how he or she intends to use the things stated and discussed above in the future.

Poor

There is no clear analysis or discussion of how what the student learned will be used or applied in the future.
Fair

1-2 things are analyzed and adequately discussed for future use/application.
Good

2 things are analyzed, and there is sufficient discussion that relates how the student will use/apply what was learned in the future.
Excellent

3 or more things are thoroughly analyzed, and it is easy to discern how the student intends to use/apply what was learned in the future.
Essay Length

Poor

The essay is less than a page in length.
Fair

The essay is 1 to 1.4 pages in length.
Good

The essay is 1.5 to just less than 2 pages in length.
Excellent

The essay is 2 or more pages in length.
Clarity of Writing

This criterion includes how clearly and effectively the student composed and wrote the essay based on content and organization.

Poor

There is no apparent organization, and it is difficult to discern the student's intended meaning and purpose.
Fair

The content is not very well organized and it is difficult to follow in places.
Good

Overall, the content is clear and organized. Any disorganization does not occlude the intended purpose of the essay.
Excellent

The content of the essay is clearly organized and it effectively communicates the student's intended purpose, which is to reflect on what he or she learned and how it will be used in the future.
Wrting Errors

This criterion includes the number of errors in grammar, writing conventions (spelling, capitalization, punctuation), and deviations from Standard English.

Poor

The essay contains more than 15 errors, and the meaning and purpose is difficult or impossible to discern.
Fair

The essay contains 10-15 errors, and while there are some awkward phrases and sentence structure, the overall intent and meaning can be discerned.
Good

The essay contains 7-10 errors, and the intended meaning can still be discerned.
Excellent

The essay contains less than 7 errors, and the intended meaning and purpose is easily discerned.
