Student is not able to identify any emotions the character is experiencing. Student is not able to explain why the character is experiencing specific emotions.

Student is able to identify 1 emotion using general terms (sad, mad, happy, etc). Student attempts to explain the reason for the emotion, but only gives a general reason instead of a specific reason from the book.
