Demonstrates proper body mechanics using horse/archer stance. Proper hand and arms angles are in alignment with the massage application. Avoids upper body strain.

Proper body mechanics needs improvement. During the massage application student repeatedly displayed a lack of awareness of proper positioning of hands/arms and placement of feet. Student attempted to improve body mechanics when alterations were needed but not consistent.

Draping Skills

Demonstrate correct procedures for draping

Excellent

Performs proper draping skills, by covering the client for privacy. Procedure for turning client over is correct. Communicates with the client proper instructions for turning over.

Draping skills were acceptable with minimal amount of mistakes, and/or communication cues were not fully given during competency. Sheets were occasionaly sloppy.

Draping skills need improvement. Sheets were not in appropriate position to do the massage applications given and/or sheet was held up to high during client repositioning into prone and/or sheets remained bunched and sloppy during competency.

Draping skills are not acceptable. During competency client was exposed and/or proper communication cues were not executed. Student was not aware of improperly touching the client with a private area of their body.
Proper Positioning

Client/Bolster/Face Rest

Proper positioning of client, bolsters and face rest displayed.

Student forgot placement of client/face rest/bolster once during the massage application. Student gave partial instructions on bolstering and face rest positioning.
Needs Improvement

Bolstering under the client's knees/ankles or face rest is not in position when needed during the massage application more than once during the massage application. Student gave partial instruction to the client on the proper procedure for positioning the face rest or bolster.
Not Acceptable

Bolstering and face rest positioning needs practice. Student forgot proper positioning of the bolster during competency and/or to give proper procedure instruction.

Demonstrated one hand contact throughout competency.
