Locomotor Skills K-2 Locomotor Skills 1 st Grade Identifies locomotor movement patterns within pathways and extensions. Directions: The teacher will demonstrate basic locomotor skills around in general space. Use this rubric to score each student's accomplishments of locomotor skills. Students will perform 4 different locomotor skills from the list fir a short distance. Add each locomotor skill performed from 1-4, then add totals at the end with total of 16. Locomotor Skills
	Excellent 4 pts	Good 3 pts	Fair 2 pts	Poor 1 pts
Skipping	Excellent Performs coordinated movement	Good Performs step/hop but not completely fluent	Fair Understands/describes movement but cannot perform	Poor Attempting to perform/describe movement
Galloping	Excellent Non-support gallop, leads with 1 foot and has an uneven rhythm.	Good Back foot sometimes crosses front.	Fair Walks or run. Back foot crosses front foot. Turns to side.	Poor Attempting to perform/describe movement
Hopping (1 foot)	Excellent Can hop balanced on either foot	Good Hops mostly on one foot but does not use the other foot as well or at all	Fair Cannot balance on one foot on take off or landing	Poor Attempting to perform/describe movement
Running	Excellent Looks straight ahead while running and feet and arms are moving in a straight line in the direction of movement.	Good Usually looks straight ahead with some arm movement.	Fair Rarely runs looking straight ahead. Little or no arm movement.	Poor Attempting to perform/describe movement
Sliding	Excellent Consistent sideways movement with either foot leading and feet do not cross.	Good Movement is sideways but feet sometimes cross.	Fair Movement resembles gallop or feet cross.	Poor Attempting to perform/describe movement
Jumping	Excellent Can jump with two feet together. Taking off and landing at the same time	Good Can jump with two feet together. Taking off and landing sometimes are individual	Fair Lands and takes off with one foot or the other	Poor Attempting to perform/describe movement
