Research Project course DDE 530 (Introduction) This rubric is for assessing the 'Writing the Introduction' assignment due towards the beginning of the course. It is expected that the 'Introduction section' will continue to develop as the course progresses. General Idea	Good Demonstrates command of the topic by showing a wide and relevant range of perspectives. Sources well integrated and draw upon contemporary academic debate.	Fair Descriptive, while demonstrating reasonable understanding. Sources sometimes properly integrated into the argument.	Poor Limited/poor understanding demonstrated. Sources only occasionally/not at all integrated into the argument.
Specific Idea	Good Smooth and logic transition from general idea(s) to specific idea. The specific idea is well understood.	Fair Poor distinction between general idea and specific idea, somewhat coherent. The specific idea is vague/implied.	Poor General idea and specific idea are incoherent and unrelated. The specific idea is unclear.
Knowledge Gap + Aims	Good The knowledge gap is clearly posed. The aim of the study is clearly stated using explicit terms as 'the aim of the study is...'	Fair The knowledge gap is implied. The aim of the study is somewhat clear.	Poor The knowledge gap and aim of the study is unclear.
Use of Citations; Spelling/Grammar	Good Introduction supported by at least 4-5 peer reviewed sources of evidence specific to the topic. Appropriate utilization of citations with well listed bibliography is observed. No grammar/spelling errors.	Fair Introduction supported with 2-3 peer reviewed sources of evidence specific to the topic. Acceptable utilization of citations with minor error. Some grammar/spelling errors. Adequate Search Strategy	Good Comprehensive, well formulated search strategy, with use of a variety of terms related to the subject in hand. Appropriate use of Boolean operators, MESH terms, and truncation.	Fair Less comprehensive search strategy, not all possible terms used.
