Handwriting This rubric can be used to assess student handwriting in many different assignments.
	Approaching Standards 2 pts	Meets Standards 3 pts	Exceed Standards 4 pts
Line Usage How well are the students using their writing lines?	Approaching Standards Several errors with tall and tail letters using lines correctly.	Meets Standards Uses lines correctly most of the time to form body, tail and tall letters.	Exceed Standards Always uses lines correctly to form body, tail and tall letters.
Spacing How well are students spacing their letters and/or words?	Approaching Standards Letters and words are spaced too wide or too tight.	Meets Standards Uses proper spacing most of the time.	Exceed Standards Always uses proper spacing.
Letter Formation How well are students forming their letters correctly?	Approaching Standards Several errors in letter formation particularly starting position. Still reverses some letters and numerals.	Meets Standards Most letters are formed correctly.	Exceed Standards Consistently forms all letters correctly.
Neatness and Presentation How well the student presents written work in other books and homework tasks.	Approaching Standards Contains unconventional style related to firmness/pressure of pencil, slope or incorrect letter formation.	Meets Standards Easy to read. Mostly demonstartes care has been taken to complete work.	Exceed Standards Extremely neat and always completes work of a high standard.
