Song Writing Rubric
	Falls Far Below 5 pts	Approaches 10 pts	Meets 15 pts	Exceeds 20 pts
Purpose: 20 pts Your song has a clear purpose to it, it fits with it's topic or title.	Falls Far Below Purpose is unclear, song doesn't seem to have any focus or topic.	Approaches Song MIGHT fit it's title or topic if you really thought about it, however is still unclear.	Meets Song has a clear purpose.	Exceeds The song has a clear purpose and is exciting to listen to.
Tempo/Melody 20 pts The speed, the tune of the song.	Falls Far Below The song is choppy with a unnatural mix of tempo. The melody of the song is unclear.	Approaches Tempo and rhythm are sometimes unclear or slow down and speed up. The melody is apparent is some places but unclear in others.	Meets Tempo and rhythm are consistent. The melody is mostly smooth and clear..	Exceeds The melody and rhythm were perfectly performed. Student's could clap along to a steady beat.
Lyrics 20 pts A set of words, phrases or sounds that make up a song	Falls Far Below Lyrics clash with the melody and have little meaning to the writer.	Approaches Lyrics are starting to flow with the melody.	Meets Lyrics are meaningful and connect to the music.	Exceeds The lyrics are meaningful to the artists, flow with the melody and connect to the overall song.
Verse/Chorus Requirements 20 pts There must be at least TWO separate verses to it, the chorus must have at least four lines to it.	Falls Far Below Song has one or no verses and chorus is only a line or two.	Approaches Chorus is mostly complete, one verse might be finished.	Meets Chorus is complete with at least 4 lines to it, Two verses are completed .	Exceeds The song has three or more verses to it, the chorus is complete. The song has gone above and beyond the minimum requirement of 2 verses.
Audience Response 20 pts How the audience of your peers react to your song.	Falls Far Below Song has little or no impact on your peers. They sit and listen quietly, but have little to say about it.	Approaches Some peers may tap their foot, smile occasionally and nod the the rhythm. They make a few comments, but not many.	Meets The overall group interact with the song with body movement, laughter, talk or dance. Many comments follow the playing of the song.	Exceeds You have a hit on your hands. Students laugh out loud, hoot, shoot, dance and give enormous praise to your song. They may even seek copies of your masterpiece.
