Abstract/Non-Objective Acrylic Painting
Students will learn the difference betwen realistic, abstract, and non-objective art. Students will review wet media techniques and learn how to do acrylic transfer. Students will create an acrylic abstract or non-objective painting using a variety of techniques and instructional steps.

The piece shows little evidence of original thought. There are mimimal attempts at preliminary thumnails or sketches for composition. The composition is weak.
Level 3

The student's work lacked sincere originality.
There are attempts at thumbnails or sketches but they do not show adequate problem-solving efforts for composition. The composition could be improved upon with more effort.
Level 4

The student's work demonstrates originality. The student has created several sketches or thumbnails in an effort to work though problem-solving for composition. The composition has minor flaws.
Level 5

The student's work demonstrates originality and shows evidence of planning and problem-solving through complex sketches or thumbnails that show the process of thought for composition. The composition is strong.

The student did not finish work in satisfactory manner. They did not follow the steps for the painting and put little thought into the process of the painting.
Level 3

The student finished the project but it lacked finished touches. They did not follow all of the steps fro the painting and struggled with the process. The project could be improved upon with little effort.
Level 4

The student completed the project in a satisfactory manner. They followed all of the steps of the painting successfully.
Level 5

The student gave an effort far beyond the requirements of the project. They followed all of the steps of the painting and integrated problem-solving and creativity during the process.

Level 4

The student showed good craftsmanship and understanding of painting techniques. The student worked hard to ask questions and respond to help from the teacher to improve their craftsmanship and understanding.
Level 5

The work shows outstanding craftsmanship and was finished with a great deal of care throughout the artistic process. They have above average understanding of painting techniques. They asked questions and responded to help from the teacher appropriately.

The student showed negative responses at times throughout the development of the piece.

The student showed positive response most of the time during the development of the piece.
Level 4

The student showed positive response all of the time during the development of the piece.
Level 5

The student showed positive response all of the time during the development of the piece and was appropriately helpful to others and/or the teacher during the process.
