Arms

Needs Improvement

Student does not keep arm in proper action or motion. Appears to have little or no control of arms.
Fair

Shoulders are high and unrelaxed. Student demonstrates basic understanding of arm movement, and is fairly successful in execution.
Good

Skills are generally good. Executes arm movement in a controlled and smooth pattern. Student understands how arms are supposed to move and executes it well.
Excellent

Shoulders are relaxed. Arms swing from the shoulders at a 90 degree angle. Arms do not cross the midline of the body. Student demonstrates full understanding of arm movement.
Legs/Feet

Needs Improvement

Feet land flat, no attempt to land on balls of feet. Stride is too short or long.
Student runs or move with feet wider than shoulder width apart.
Fair

Legs near full extension. Knees are not getting high enough and are not pointing forward. Feet land heel first, no push forward.
Good

Knees make it to average height. Student shows understanding of which part of foot to land on. Proper technique is used.
Excellent

Feet land in proper manner. Student gets push forward from using balls of feet. Has high heel recovery. Legs and arms move in pattern together. (opposite arm and leg)
Upper Body

Needs Improvement

Student leans far forward or backwards.
Fair

Upper body is vertical, but unrelaxed. Shoulders and chest are tight and contracted. Torsos moves in a side to side twisting motion.
Good

Upper body is upright position, does not lean to far forward or backwards. Torso moves in slight twisting motion.
Excellent

Upper body is upright and student is comfortably relax. Torso does not twist, no wasted motions
Pacing

The student shows a understanding of pacing and puts it into practice

Needs Improvement

Student demonstrates no understanding of pacing.
Fair

Student demonstrates a beginning knowledge of pacing. Pace is inconsistent, but student demonstrates ability to adjust.
Good

Student demonstrates understanding of pacing and uses it well during lesson. Pace varies during runs.
Excellent

Student demonstrates prolific understanding of pacing and is able to use it to full advantage. Excels at being able to control how they run, pace did not change at all.
