Pueblo Guitar Class Goals and Targets
Stone Bridge Guitar, Rehearsal Technique
Students in the Pueblo Middle School Guitar Program are expected to be punctual, be respectful during rehearsal/class, participate to the student's fullest potential, practice outside of class, and care for instruments, music, and equipment.

Student is often disruptive during rehearsal and/or doesn't participate or listen to the director. Student is rarely attentive, and often talking in class. The student shows little to no interest in learning to play guitar.

Student is sometimes disruptive during rehearsal and/or listens to the director's instructions. Student is often talking to classmates. The student shows little desire to become a guitar player.
Good
Student is hardly ever disruptive during rehearsal and usually listens to the director's instructions. Student shows signs of investment in wanting to be a good guitar player.
Outstanding
Student is never disruptive during rehearsal/class and participates in class daily, listening across the band or to the director. Student is clearly invested in wanting to be a guitar player.
Care of Instr./Music/Equip.

Student rarely cares for school/personal property in the guitar room. Including: instruments, music, percussion area, equipment, practice rooms, etc.

Student sometimes cares for school/personal property in the guitar room. Including: instr., music, percussion area, equipment, practice rooms, etc.

Student plays notes, rhythms, fingering incorrectly and uses right hand improperly.

Student plays about half of the notes, rhythms, has incorrect fingering and .

Student plays with mostly correct notes, correct rhythms, hand position and fingering, at appropriate tempo

Student plays with correct notes, correct rhythms, hand position and fingering, at appropriate tempo
Playing Ability, chords
Poor
Student can not make any chords sound with clarity.
Fair
Student knows one open chord that can sound with clarity.
Good
Student can play all the open chords with clarity and knows the most common barre chord positions.
Outstanding
Student can play with all notes sounding: Major, minor, 7th, minor 7th and diminished chords around the circle of fifths. Student can play most major and minor chords in 2 different places on the neck.
Practicing Skills
Poor
Student rarely participates in classroom activities, stops playing, has guitar in incorrect position and does not practice unless prompted to do so.
Fair
The student will practice for a very short time and requires multiple prompts to keep practicing. Student does not focus on technique or playing with accuracy.
Good
The student practices skills but does has difficulty tolerating repetition that is needed to learn certain skills and techniques. Student tolerates exercises for short periods of time. Student returns to practicing after one prompt.
Outstanding
Student stays focused, repeats fine motor movements, plays exercises, and practices drills aimed at improving ability. The student needs no prompting to get them to practice what is being taught and readily accepts new challenges. The student can cite examples of skills they have mastered.
