Story Elements

Required

The text loosely respects the plot chart, including an introduction of characters and setting, rising action, climax event, falling action and conclusion. The main character demonstrates the lesson the reader is supposed to have learned from reading the story. Most story elements support the plot development and eventual reveal of the moral of the story.
Thorough

All story elements support the plot development and eventual reveal of the moral of the story.
Language Conventions

Respects the word limit, vocabulary, sentence structure, syntax, flow and clarity of ideas, etc.

Partial

The writing demonstrates some to minor editing and revising in the final version. Errors in syntax and/or sentence structure sometimes make meaning unclear. The text lacks structure and paragraphing, so the reader may have some difficulty following the structure of the story. Application of capitalization and punctuation are inconsistent and often incorrect, sometimes making the text difficult to understand.
Required

The writing demonstrates careful attention to revising and editing in the final version. Use of language and sentence structure is generally correct, enhancing meaning. While there may be some incorrect use of language and some run-on sentences, overall meaning is not affected. Ideas are grouped, usually by paragraphs. Application of punctuation is consistent, for the most part, however minor errors may interfere with clarity of expression.
Thorough

The writing demonstrates control through effective revising and editing of the final version. Skillful use of language and sentence structures enhances both meaning and style. Paragraphs are used meaningfully throughout the text to shape the plot development and provide structure to the text. Punctuation is used applied correctly and consistently in order to guide the reader's understanding throughout the text.
