Journal Article Reflection This rubric is designed to measure a student's review of an assigned transfusion medicine journal article.
	Poor A poor job of providing the required information is performed by the reviewer. 0 pts	Good The reviewer does a good job applying the evaluation category to the journal article. 10 pts	Excellent The writer completely covers all required information for a thorough evaluation. 20 pts
AMA reference citation and grammar. The article is correctly referenced according to AMA Style Guide, 10th edition (2012). The writer uses standard English and correct grammar throughout the review.	Poor No attempt is made at referencing according to AMA Style Guide, 10th edition (2012).	Good The reference citation has one error. There are some spelling and grammar errors throughout the paper	Excellent Citation is correct and no errors exist in the citation or in grammar and spelling.
Introduction Provide a clear introduction of the purpose of the study and the author's expected outcomes.	Poor Difficult to understand the purpose with no inclusion of background information.	Good Minimal insight into the purpose of the study.	Excellent Clear introduction to the purpose of the study and description of the background. May include review of additional references.
Summary Provide a brief summary of the methods and findings of the article.	Poor Methods and results are indirectly stated or not stated at all.	Good A summary of the article is provided, but is lacking in one or more areas.	Excellent Clearly states methods and findings of the study.
Evaluation Provide an evaluation of the study, including the number of samples or observations and appropriateness of statistical analysis, if applicable.	Poor Less than one paragraph with minimal evaluation.	Good Evaluation included only but at a superficial level.	Excellent At least 2 paragraphs of in-depth evaluation, including review of statistics.
Conclusion Describe the implications in transfusion medicine.	Poor No implications provided.	Good Implications are listed but not fully explained.	Excellent Implications are clearly explained and demonstrate critical thinking skills
