Student expresses personal point of view but does not back up view with examples.	Good Student extends personal response and explains basic and initial reactions in some detail. Student makes evaluations/judgments of text and backs up personal point of view with examples from text.	Excellent Student responds to text in great detail making a clear and insightful connection between self and text. Student makes numerous evaluations/judgments of text and backs up personal point of view with many examples from text.
Evaluation of Author's Purpose and Audience	Poor No attention is given to author's purpose or audience.	Fair Author's purpose and audience is mentioned but lacks detail or explanation.	Good Student explores author's purpose and audience by citing many details from the text and connecting them to logical analyses.	Excellent Student shows a complex understanding of author's purpose and intended audience. There are many details from the reading that are insightfully connected to student's ideas.
