Pitch and Intonation

Level 1

The student's pitch is not yet at a satisfactory level, and there are several major discrepancies.
Level 2

The student's pitch is generally satisfactory, but there are a few major discrepancies.
Level 3

The student's pitch is good, although there are a few minor discrepancies.
Level 4

The student's pitch is excellent throughout.
Criterion

Rhythmic and Tempo

Level 1

The student's rhythm is not yet at a satisfactory level, and lacks precision. The beat is generally unsteady.
Level 2

The student's rhythm is generally satisfactory, through there is a lack precision. The beat is somewhat unsteady.
Level 3

The student's rhythm is good and the beat is generally steady.
Level 4

The student's rhythm is excellent throughout, and he/she maintains a steady beat.
Criterion

Diction and timbre (vocal quality)

Level 1

The student's timbre and diction are not yet at a satisfactory level. There is evidence of harshness or forced, pinched, or breathy timbre. Many of the words are difficult to understand.
Level 2

The student's timbre and diction are generally satisfactory, though there is evidence of harshness or forced, pinched, or breathy timbre. Some words are difficult to understand.
Level 3

The student's timbre and diction are good. The tone quality is good. Most vowels are pure and most consonants are clearly articulated.
Level 4

The student's timbre and diction are excellent throughout. The tone is open, resonant, and not forced. all vowels and consonants are clearly articulated.
Criterion

Posture and breath

Level 1

The student does not demonstrate an appropriate singing posture. The student's breathing is inadequate to produce a healthy, resonant vocal tone.
Level 2

The student demonstrates marginally acceptable posture when singing. The student's breathing is not sufficiently deep.
Level 3

The student sits or stands erect, with the head up and the mouth sufficiently open. Breath control and tone support are good.
Level 4

The student's posture and position are excellent. The student sits or stands erect, with the head up and the mouth sufficiently open. The student breathes deeply and the tone is well supported.
