	Significantly Below Expectations 5 pts	Below Expections 10 pts	Meets Expectations 15 pts	Above Expectations 20 pts	Exceeds Expectations 25 pts
Preparation	5 No evidence of preparation	10 Preparation evident by simple participation.	15 Evidence of minimal preparation while showing evidence of reading.	20 Uses worksheets and reading during the discussion.	25 Uses assignments, the book, and additional notes.
Textual Support	5 No participation or never references text	10 Attempts to reference; however, not relevant or fails to demonstrate relevance	15 References the text in general and is relevant to the discussion	20 References specific incidents to elaborate on point.	25 References specific incidents,and cites page numbers or uses quotes.
Participation	5 Present in the circle, but does not engage in the conversation.	10 Offers some information to the fishbowl, but is regularly interrupting, or distracted, and weak.	15 Asks developed questions, and/or presents new ideas or information at least once with quality.	20 Offers quality information and thoughts regarding the idea. The information offered by the student spurs additional conversation within the group. (At least 5 times)	25 Asks developed questions, and presents creative ideas. The student also expounds upon ideas of others and recognizes their participation. (More than 5 times)
Interaction	5 A disruption to the group.	10 Does not participate, but not a disruption;shows a lack of interest: no eye contact, negative body language, etc.	15 Maintains eye contact and positive body language.
