Revised Scientific Theories: Summative Project 
Scientific laws and theories are a major part of the study of science but, as we have learned, these laws and theories are always being challenged, tested, and changed. When new information is discovered, scientific laws and theories are either changed or replaced.

Student must include the following information in the product: the name of the law or theory; the scientist(s) that originally proposed the law; background information on the scientist(s); the original theory or law; how the law or theory has changed; when the law or theory was changed; the current/updated law or theory

The student is proficient AND has included interesting facts about his/her scientific law or theory.
Proficient

The student has included ALL of the required information and the information is organized in a cohesive manner.
Progressing

The student has included 5 required pieces of information, and the information is organized in a cohesive manner.
Beginning

The student has included 3 or less of the required pieces of information and the information lacks organization.

The student has found a minimum of 3 credible resources and had his/her topic approved by the teacher.

Advanced

The student is proficient, has included more than 3 credible resources, AND has provided a MLA formatted "Work Cites" page.
Proficient

The student has included references to 3 credible resources and has received approval on his/her topic from the teacher.
Progressing

The student has included 2 credible resource OR has included 3 resources but not all are credible and received approval on his/her topic from the teacher.
Beginning

The student has included less than 2 credible resources and has received approval on his/her topic from the teacher.
Project Product
20 %

The student will choose on of the project products: an informational; a flow chart; an informative cartoon; write and record a skit; create a rap/song. The student will use the chosen product to demonstrate understanding of a scientific law or theory that has been revised.

Advanced

The student is proficient AND he/she has created the product using technology.
Proficient

The student has created an informational product which is interesting and organized in a way that catches the audience's attention.
Progressing

The student has created an informational product which is interesting and is somewhat organized in a way that is attention grabbing.
Beginning

The student has created an informational product that is interesting but lacks organization OR lacks audience engagement.
Collaboration
40 %

The student will work with another student on this project. Each group will be given 2 days in class to work with access to computers and other materials.

Advanced

The student has maximized his/her in class work time and completed an equal amount of work on the project.
Proficient

The student has maximized his/her in class work time and completed an equal amount of work on the project.
Progressing

The student has used most of his/her time in class and has completed an equal amount of work on the project.
Beginning

The student either has not utilized his/her time in class appropriately OR has not completed his/her equal share of the work on this project.
