AABA Musical Composition Musical Composition Students will use common rhythms and simple melodic gestures to compose a 32 measure composition in either 3/4 or 4/4 time. Students will have numerous class periods to complete the assignment. Students will also turn in a self reflection describing the cognitive process they used in developing their composition. Melody	Needs Improvment Notes and tones vary and even clash. The song has no flow.	Work in Progress The song has a basic flow, yet notes and tones clash occasionally.	Decent The notes, tones, and keys flow. The types of tunes enhance the song.	High Quality The notes, tones and song keys are polished. Each section brings meaning to the overall song.
Rhythm	Needs Improvment The rhythm is either unsynchronized or doesn't make musical sense.	Work in Progress A rhythmic flow is apparent, but needs more development.	Decent A stable rhythmic flow is present and the song makes musical sense.	High Quality A strong rhythmic flow is present and the rhythm flows well with the melody.
Rhythmic and Melodic Interaction	Needs Improvment No correlation between the rhythm and melody is present. The song has no direction and makes no musical sense.	Work in Progress Rhythm and melody are coming together. There is a small variation in rhythm and at least two simple melodic themes are present	Decent Rhythm and melody flow well together and the song makes musical sense with regards to the time signatures and key signatures.	High Quality The rhythm and melody complete the entire song and there is a strong melodic and rhythmic flow. Rhythm and melody work together to produce a pleasing musical piece.

Work in Progress You may tap your foot, smile occasionally and nod to the rhythm. You may have few comments, but not many.	Decent You definitely want to interact with the song with body movement, laughter, talk or dance. You want to make many comments follow the playing of the song.	High Quality It's a potential hit song. You have a strong positive reaction to the song. You want to listen to it again and again.
