Minimally accomplishes the task. Some attempt at a unifying theme or main idea, stays somewhat focused on topic and task. Has some relevant ideas and few details or lists ideas without supporting facts and details to develop the topic. Explores some facets of the topic.

The writing accomplishes the task. It presents a unifying theme or main idea, but may include minor tangents. Writing includes relevant ideas including sufficient information with supporting facts and details that develop the topic. Details may not be fully developed; ideas may be listed. Does it explore some facets of the topic?

The writing fully accomplishes the task. It presents a unifying theme or main idea without going off on tangents and stays focused on topic and task. Includes many relevant ideas, providing ample information and more than adequate supporting facts and details that develop the topic. Explores many facets of the topic.

Writing exhibits limited vocabulary or words are used incorrectly. Demonstrates minimal or less than minimal control of vocabulary. Writing technique is minimal, exhibiting little fluency, contains only simple sentences or has problems with sentence patterns. Is repetitive, predictable for dull?
