Poetry Writing Rubric
	Getting Started 1 pts	On My Way 2 pts	WOW!! 3 pts
Words	Getting Started I used ordinary words that are not very interesting. My meaning is confusing to the reader.	On My Way I used some some interesting words. My words tell what I mean.	WOW!! I used just the right words that make clear pictures in the reader's head.
Participation	Getting Started I did not participate in the class discussion about the best part of me. I did not share with my group and partner.	On My Way I tried to share but I interrupted others and had some trouble with it. I will try to do better next time.	WOW!! I was really excited and shared my ideas during the class work and I loved sharing my ideas with the groups and partners.
Feelings	Getting Started The reader of my poem can't tell what my feelings are.	On My Way My reader has a connection with what I wrote and understands my feelings.	WOW!! My reader has a strong emotional response with my poem that makes them feel my meaning.
Format	Getting Started I did not follow the directions of the poem	On My Way I used a poetry format with some success.	WOW!! I followed a specific poetry format.
Printing/Neatness	Getting Started Some of my letters are backwards or scribbly. My writing is sloppy and hard to read.	On My Way My letters are mostly formed correctly and there are spaces between words.	WOW!! My writing is neat, well spaced and easy to read.
