Biomes
Biomes
Students are to model a biome. The model should include appropriate living and non-living organisms present. The model should include an appropriate description of the biome including the climate, what living and non-living organisms are present, how the living organisms meet their needs for survival, and an example of a food chain or web that exists in this environment. Students will need to state the common name of a plant, animal, fungi, and protist of the biome. Students will also have to describe the interconnected relationships of the species of their choice. Key Points: that energy driving the ecosystem comes from the sun the web of life is continually dying and feeding other sections of the biome that diversity assures resilience.

Food Web
3
Students include 4 or more producers, 4 or more consumers, and 2 or more decomposers in the food web with accurate labels and descriptions. The web is highly organized and the viewer is able to view the project with ease. Students accurately use arrows to show the flow of energy with minimal errors.
2
Students include 2-3 producers, 2-3 consumers, and 1 decomposers in the food web with corresponding labels and descriptions. The web is somewhat organized and the viewer can view the project with almost complete ease. Students use arrows to show the flow of energy with 2-3 errors.
1
Students include 0-1 producers, 0-1 consumers, and 0-1 decomposers in the food web with some corresponding labels and descriptions. The web is not organized and the viewer cannot view the project with ease. Students were unable to use most arrows to show the flow of energy.
Climate
3
Students provided accurate descriptions of the temperature and climate of the biome.
2
Students provided inaccurate
description(s) of either temperature or climate or did not include one in their presentation.
1
Students provided inaccurate descriptions of both temperature and climate or did not include temperature and climate in their presentation.
Location and Map
3
Demonstrates knowledge of the worldwide locations of the biome using a world map and descriptive terms.
2
Demonstrates some knowledge of the worldwide locations of the biome using a world map and descriptive terms.
1
Does not demonstrate knowledge of the worldwide locations of the biome using a world map and descriptive terms.
Animals
3
Identifies 7 animals in the biome that are adapted to the biome and why those adaptations contribute to the animals living and surviving in that biome.
2
Identifies 4-6 animals in the biome that are adapted to the biome and why those adaptations contribute to the animals living and surviving in that biome and/or can not express why the adaptations contribute to the animals living and surviving in that biome.
1
Identifies 1-3 animals in the biome that are adapted to the biome and why those adaptations contribute to the animals living and surviving in that biome and/or does not demonstrate understanding of how animals living in the biome are adapted to live in the biome.
Plants
3
Identifies 7 plants in the biome that are adapted to the biome and why those adaptations contribute to the plants living and surviving in that biome.
2
Identifies 4-6 plants in the biome that are adapted to the biome and why those adaptations contribute to the plants living and surviving in that biome and/or can not express why the adaptations contribute to the plants living and surviving in that biome.
1
Identifies 1-3 plants in the biome that are adapted to the biome and why those adaptations contribute to the plants living and surviving in that biome and/or does not demonstrate understanding of how plants living in the biome are adapted to live in the biome.
"Extra" Facts
3
Students provided descriptions of at least 4 "extra" facts about the biome.
2
Students provided descriptions of
2-3 "extra" facts about the biome.
1
Students provided descriptions of
0-1 "extra" facts about the biome.
Organization/Understanding
3
Information is highly organized into well thought out.
2
Information is somewhat organized.
1
Information is poorly organized.
Visual Presentation
3
Goes above and beyond the following criteria: neatness, creativity, interesting and appealing to the eye. Presentation includes all 6 areas (locations, plants, animals, climate, food web, and "extra facts").
2
Does the minimum required in following the criteria: neatness, creativity, interesting and appealing to the eye. Presentation includes 3-5 areas locations, plants, animals, climate, food web, and "extra facts").
1
Does not follow the following criteria:
neatness, creativity, interesting and appealing to the eye. Presentation includes 0-2 areas locations, plants, animals, climate, food web, and "extra facts").
