Introduction	Excellent Introduction is connected to the topic and appropriate to the author’s opinion. It is interesting and hooks the reader's attention.	Fair Introduction is connected to the topic and appropriate to the author’s opinion.	Poor Introduction is not connected to the topic or appropriate to the author’s opinion.
Sequence	Excellent Sequence includes a clear opinion, evidence that supports the opinion, and a conclusion that summarizes the authors opinion.	Fair Sequence is not clear and is missing one of the following opinion, evidence that supports the opinion, or a conclusion that summarizes the authors opinion.	Poor Sequence is so unclear that the essay is confusing to the reader.
Text Evidence	Excellent Gives evidence to support reasons using the text to explain them. Evidence matches the opinion and the reasons.	Fair Gives evidence to support the reasons and explain them. Evidence matches the opinion and the reasons.	Poor Does not provide evidence to support reasons.
Grammar	Excellent Uses vocabulary that matches the topic. Uses correct grammar with few errors.	Fair More than a few errors but the essay is still clear.	Poor Grammar errors make the essay hard to understand.
