Introduction	Poor Lacks one or more of the following elements: specific attention getter, logical progression of ideas, clear thesis statement. Or, too much irrelevant info on author.	Fair Uses a specific attention getter. Links the attention getter to the thesis through a logical progression of ideas. Ends with a thesis statement. Some info of author irrelevant.	Excellent Uses specific and interesting attention getter. Links attention getter to the thesis through a logical progression of ideas. Ends with a clear thesis statement. Mentions the author and title of the piece.
Analysis of Purpose	Poor Analysis does not indicate a clear understanding of the overall purpose of the poem. Quotes are simply summarized.	Fair More summary than analysis is apparent. analysis of the poem is not an indepth analysis. Analysis indicates minimal understanding of the purpose of the poem.	Excellent Includes an indepth analysis the purpose of the poem. Analysis of the poem indicates a clear and thoughtful understanding of purpose of the poem.
Poetic/ Literary Devices	Poor Does not identify any poetic/or literary devices of the poem. Or, devices are identified, but examples do not correlate.	Fair Poetic/or literay devices are identified however, examples are correct, however analysis of the device is vague and offers minimal interpretation or innovative insight.	Excellent Poetic and Literay devices are clearly identified and explained fully. Analysis is thorough and goes into depth. Interpretations are clear and discussed beyond the scope of the poem.
