Proficient Student can provide multiple details of the setting, where and when.	Exceeding Student can provide multiple details of the setting and explain how the setting is important to the plot, or what happens in the story.
Character	Limited Student tries but is unable to name a character from the story.	Acceptable Student can name one or more characters from the story, but cannot state who the main character(s) is.	Proficient Student can identify the main character(s) and supporting characters that are important to the story	Exceeding The student can identify the main character(s) and the important supporting characters. Student can also explain how the main character is important to the story.
Mood	Limited Student no active words that enhance or help the mood of the setting	Acceptable Student uses simple words that somewhat help the mood of the setting	Proficient Student demonstrates some active words that enhance the mood to connect the setting	Exceeding Student applies strong active words enhancing the mood and creating a visual for setting.
