Design/Symmetry	Excellent Student created a totally original design that is visually pleasing and interesting. Colors work well together and the design is symmetrical.	Good Most of the design is unique and visually pleasing. The colors are harmonious and work well together throughout most of the mandala, although there may be a few problem areas. The design is mostly symmetrical.	Poor The mandala has few or no unique elements. The colors do not work well together and the mandala may not be symmetrical.
Use of Space	Excellent Close to 100% of the mandala is filled with geometric shapes. The design is proportionate with the mandala.	Good 75% of the mandala is filled with geometric shapes. The scale of the design should be a little bigger.	Poor The mandala has too much white space and clearly needs more work.
Craftsmanship	Excellent Great care and time were given to the design and construction of the mandala. All sand is evenly and neatly applied to the mandala.	Good The design of the mandala was well thought out and, despite minor flaws, the mandala has been constructed well. Most of the sand is evenly and neatly applied to the mandala.	Poor The mandala is sloppy and looks thrown together. It appears as though little or no thought has been given to the design or construction of the mandala. The sand is applied in a sloppy, uneven manner.
Effort	Excellent Student used class time wisely and made a sincere effort to do quality work.	Good Student used most of the class time appropriately, although they may have occasionally been off task. Student made some effort to follow directions and create a finished mandala.	Poor Student did not finish their project. Student made poor use of class time and showed little or no effort.
