Completeness	Does not meet standards Contains 2 or fewer poems that are an accurate representation of poems studied. The form of the poem follows the notes that were given in class.	Partially proficient Contains 3 poems that are an accurate representation of poems studied. The form of the 3 poems follows the notes that were given in class.	Proficient Contains 4 poems that are an accurate representation of poems studied. The form of the 4 poems follows the notes that were given in class.	Exceeds Standards Contains 5 poems that are an accurate representation of poems studied. The form of the poem are accurate following the notes that were given in class.
Poetic Devices	Does not meet standards Accurately defines just one poetic device. Examples do not demonstrate meaning.	Partially proficient Accurately defines 2 poetic devices and provides some examples that are not sufficient in demonstrating meaning.	Proficient Accurately defines 3-4 poetic defines with sufficient examples provided.	Exceeds Standards Accurately defines all poetice devices and provides an excellent example.
Content	Does not meet standards The writer presents ideas that are original but not reflective of the poems selected. This does not demonstrate understanding of the topic.	Partially proficient The writer presents ideas that are original and interesting in 3 of the poems selected. Some understanding is evident.	Proficient The writer presents ideas that are original and interesting in 4 of the selected poems. Understanding and analysis are easy to see.	Exceeds Standards The writer presents ideas that are original and interesting in each of the poems.
Expression of Understanding	Does not meet standards The portfolio does not demonstrate understanding of concepts covered	Partially proficient There is some understanding of the concepts covered is evident, however it is clear the student has not grasped all.
