This rubric will evaluate the preparation, experimentation, and comprehension of a student who is in the role of a crime scene investigator expert witness for our mock trial.

Student demonstrates adequate understanding of character's text evidence, spoke clearly most of the time; was loud enough most of the time; was confident in their responses most of the time; answered most of the questions effectively; used notes at times.
Average

Student shows minimal understanding of text evidence; Student mumbled at times; spoke quietly some of the time; at times lacked confidence; did not answer all of the questions or was ineffective in answering a question; used notes often.
Poor

Student answers only in yes or no answers; was difficult to hear; student was not confident; student did not answer questions; used notes most of the time.
Preparation

Excellent

Student completed research and/or is ready with required materials for the testimony. Student recorded textual evidence in lab book and anticipated the questions that may be asked.
Above Average

Student usually completes research and/or is ready with required materials for the testimony. Student has done required experimentation and is ready for testimony but may not have anticipated questions that were asked.
Average

Student sometimes completes research and/or has materials. Student has completed some experimentation and is somewhat ready for testimony. Student lab book lacks sufficient evidence.
Poor

Student did not complete required research and/or experimentation. Student contributed little or nothing at all to the overall activity.

Excellent

Three or more pictures correctly identified with easy to see details and in focus. Information provided about all pictures. Three or more correct facts about forensics in relation to crime scene are provided in easy to read format. All information is accurate.
Above Average

Three or more pictures correctly identified with easy to see details and in focus. Information provided about two or more pictures. Three or more correct facts about forensics in relation to crime scene are provided in easy to read format. All information is accurate.
Average

At most three pictures are provided. One or more pictures incorrectly identified or hard to see details or not in focus. Information provided about only one picture. Only two correct facts about forensics relation to crime scene are provided in easy to read format. At least one idea is not accurate.
