Locomotor Skills Locomotor Skills Identifies locomotor movement patterns within pathways and extensions. Directions: The teacher will demonstrate basic locomotor skills in general space. Use this rubric to score each student's proficiency of locomotor skills. Students will perform 4 different locomotor skills from the list for a short distance. Locomotor Skills
	Unsatisfactory 1 pts	Needs Improvement 2 pts	Satisfactory 3 pts	Excellent 4 pts
Skipping	Unsatisfactory Cannot perform.	Needs Improvement Performs step/knee/hop but not completely fluent.	Satisfactory Performs step/knee/hop but not completely fluent.	Excellent Performs coordinated movement with varying pathways.
Galloping	Unsatisfactory Cannot perform.	Needs Improvement Walks or run. Back foot crosses front foot. Turns to side.	Satisfactory Back foot sometimes crosses front.	Excellent Non-support gallop, leads with 1 foot and has an uneven rhythm.
Hopping (1 foot)	Unsatisfactory Cannot perform.	Needs Improvement Cannot balance on one foot for take off or landing but attempts skill.	Satisfactory Hops mostly on one foot and rarely uses the other foot.	Excellent Can hop balanced on either foot
Running	Unsatisfactory Cannot perform.	Needs Improvement Rarely runs looking straight ahead. Little or no arm movement.	Satisfactory Usually looks straight ahead with some arm movement.	Excellent Looks straight ahead while running and feet and arms are moving in a straight line in the direction of movement.
Sliding	Unsatisfactory Cannot perform.	Needs Improvement Movement resembles gallop or feet cross.	Satisfactory Movement is sideways but feet sometimes cross.	Excellent Consistent sideways movement with either foot leading and feet do not cross.
