The student sang accurate pitches throughout the pieces in both the low and high parts of the vocal range.
AVERAGE

There were only one or two pitch inaccuracies, but overall, the student sang all pitches very well.
BELOW AVERAGE

There were many pitch problems in the exam. The student struggled maintain their voice part.
Rhythm accuracy

The student's rhythms were sung properly both on and off the beat.
AVERAGE

There were only one or two rhythmic inaccuracies, but overall, the student did very well.
BELOW AVERAGE

There were several rhythmic inaccuracies.
Intonation

The student sang pitches in tune not only with the key but the other singers around them.

The singer was in tune with either the key or the group, but not both.

The student performed the dynamics as written in the music, but also emphasized correct words in a musical manner

The student followed the dynamics as determined by the composer, but did not emphasize each phrase in a musical way.

The student maintained one dynamic level throughout the examination.
Diction

The student sang correct pronunciation of each word; both consonants and vowels were clear and audible
AVERAGE

The student sang with the correct pronunciation of each word, but consonants and vowels were not clear.
BELOW AVERAGE

The student was not understandable, sang on a neutral syllable, or sang in the wrong language.
Tone Quality

OUTSTANDING

The student's quality of sound was clear and unforced. The soft pallet remained tall, yet relaxed. No tension in the tongue, mouth, or jaw.
AVERAGE

The student performed with a tall sound, but may have issues with tension in the mouth, tongue, or jaw. May also have issue keeping the pallet in the correct throughout the vocal range.
BELOW AVERAGE

The student never raised the soft pallet. There may also be issues with tension.
Breath Support
5 pts

OUTSTANDING

The student breathes with correct posture, not allowing the shoulders to rise. The student prepares each phrase with a relaxed, inaudible breath.
AVERAGE

The student still breathes with shoulders down, but doesn't prepare each breath or takes shallow breaths.
BELOW AVERAGE

The student maintains high breaths throughout the exam. Shallow and audible breathing interfere with sound production.
