Vocabulary Rubric - Frayer Model 
When asked to complete a Frayer Model for a target word that was presented in a story or text the students will: write the word, rate their understanding of the word on a scale of 1-4, give the definition or definitions for the word, provide at least one synonym, illustrate the meaning with a picture, write a complete sentence using the word with good context clues to support meaning. I can demonstrate control of English through the use of grammar and mechanics (punctuation, capitalization, and spelling). I can use dictionaries, thesauruses, electronic sources, and glossaries as aids in determining the meaning of unfamiliar words. I can recognize and use grade-appropriate and content specific vocabulary within context. I can define and recognize synonyms. I can select the visual image that best reinforces a viewpoint or enhances a presentation.

The picture focuses on a simple object or event that creates a visual image of the meaning. The context of the picture connects to the word.

There is no picture or the picture does not illustrate the meaning of the target word.
Characteristics/ Synonyms

Innovating

Demonstrates knowledge of the word listing synonyms to make additional connections.
